San Jacinto College maintains a blackboard system that students and faculty can use to share information and collaborate. The blackboard system can be used to post announcements, submit coursework, and more. This article will show you how to use the San Jac blackboard system.
This is what a typical San Jac Blackboard looks like, It should be noted that the images provided in this tutorial are for demonstration purposes only and may not reflect the current layout of any actual or future web-based course content. The instructor has the ability to change how it appears, but with some effort on your part, you can make it look like my screenshots.
Finally, these steps were done on Firefox browser; if you use another browser (for example Internet Explorer), your interface with blackboard might be slightly different, and some features may not work at all (I do not recommend using Internet Explorer with Blackboard).
First off, we need a course shell. On the left-hand side of your screen under “course tools,” you will see a link for “enter a new course shell.” Click on this and then create a new course shell. You can name it anything that you want, but I suggest naming it after the class that you’ll be teaching on the San Jac blackboard (in my example, I named it Criminal Justice 101). Once you have created the course shell, click on the link to enter your new course shell.

About San Jacinto College
San Jacinto College is a community college in the Houston area. It offers associate’s degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields. San Jacinto College also has a transfer agreement with the University of Houston-Downtown, which allows students to complete their bachelor’s degree at UHD after completing their associate’s degree at San Jacinto College.
In addition to its main campus, located in Houston, San Jacinto College has campuses in unincorporated areas of Harris County near Deer Park, Baytown, and La Porte. The Seguin Campus is located in Seguin south of Austin. Other facilities are located elsewhere throughout Greater Houston.
The college was established when the Hastings School District became the first school district in Texas authorized to establish junior colleges in 1923. It opened on September 25, 1924, with an enrollment of 817 students at a cost of $35 per year for tuition and $1 per month for building rent.
Originally it had only one permanent classroom building with four teachers and 150 full-time students. Two years later the residents of Dickinson asked for permission to annex the college property, which was granted. By 1928 there was a faculty of 10 and enrollment had increased to 500; the first campus newspaper was published.
